Salamander Resort & Spa | By Jennifer | Old Town Post

During the Cherry Blossom Festival last year Miles and I took Fefe to Middleburg for an afternoon. We enjoyed the beauty of the country, had a nice lunch outside, walked the quaint main street, shopped around, and finally stopped in at Salamander Resort & Spa. Seeing the posh establishment and learning that it was dog friendly we kept it tucked in our minds for a future weekend excursion. And with two special occasions for us in February, Middleburg being voted among Top 10 Most Romantic Destinations by Travel + Leisure, and Salamander running a series of deals Miles called up and booked one of the dog friendly rooms on the first floor.

Just an hour and twenty minutes from Old Town on a Friday afternoon we arrived at the resort just after sunset. We valeted the car and didn’t see it again until check-out. We were greeted at check-in with that day’s selection of fruit infused water and after seeing that we arrived later than anticipated the front desk clerk pushed our dinner reservation back to give us time to relax a bit. We found the service at Salamander flawless. They anticipated needs we didn’t even know we had and made our stay a truly decadent experience.

We arrived in our room, unpacked, had a cocktail on the couch, and got Fefe settled-in to her surroundings. And what lovely surroundings! Our dog friendly room had floor to ceiling windows so Fefe could look out and a patio with green space just beyond for those dogs that need to go potty outside (Fefe is a three pound Yorkie and goes on a puppy pad). With Salamander being dog friendly we found that the resort attracted dog lovers as well and Fefe got lots of attention when we walked around. And when she stayed in the room there was a “Please *Paws* Before Entering – Doggie in Room” sign that we could hang on the doorknob.

Just like the Please Paws sign, every detail at the resort has been meticulously thought-out. As Salamander is nestled into horse country it’s only appropriate that among its traditional comfortable elegance are nods to the equestrian lifestyle in the décor.

IMG_3306With so much to do at the resort we never ventured into town during our stay as I initially thought we would. Salamander has something for everyone from the equestrian activities, fitness center, zip-line, wine tastings, luxurious library and plush spa. In addition to all of that Harrimans (fine dining) and Gold Cup (casual with a bar, billiards, and television) served some of the best meals we’ve ever tasted.

Some of our Trip Tips for Salamander are:

  • Check Salamander’s packages online (especially during their non-peak times) and call the resort for deals. We ended-up with a buy two nights get one free deal. And that third night made us feel like we really got away from home.
  • Book spa appointments way in advance. There is only one couple’s suite at the spa and unfortunately for us it was booked. On massage day we had to book separate appointments and catch-up with each other later. In fact, if there is a specific treatment you are interested in it would be best to checking the availability prior to making room reservations. We were very surprised how much was booked especially since it was off season.
  • We highly recommend the Couples Rasul. A unique sensual and pampering treatment of Moroccan origin. It’s the two of you covered in mud while there is music set to a light show syncronized with a steam and shower treatment that dances around you in a private ceramic dome.

  • Every Sunday from 2-4 is a complimentary wine tasting at Gold Cup featuring a Virginian winery.
  • The In-Room Dining Menu has a special section for Doggie Dining.
  • And last but not least, if you get a massage make sure you give your pooch one too:

Pip Pip Cheerio!

Did ya know “pip pip” mimics the double honk you’d here on a motorcar in the early 20th century? It's an upperclass British coloqualism for farewell.🎩 I learned that because we're Downton Abbey superfans! And Miles and I visited Highclere Castle — the real life Downton in Yorkshire.📺 It was one of the best days of my life! Full of intention, serenity, gratitude, luxury, playfulness, and beauty.🧚 Pure magic!🪄 Just like life is supposed to be.♥️

I love you! Pip pip. 😘 Gigi

Ten days until Valentine’s Day. And oh how I use Ten days until Valentine’s Day. And oh how I used to dread that day before Miles.

I just want to remind everyone. I didn’t meet Miles until I was 34ish and Miles was 52ish.

If you have someone you really love to celebrate with: fabulous. If not: celebrate you! And your fur baby, if you have one!

Don’t give your power away to a day. Hold true to the fact that you are special, divine, and worthy of a magical miraculous love.

Wait for the one. I promise. It’s with it.

One year ago. On our two week long, cross country, One year ago. On our two week long, cross country, drive to Las Vegas. We were so ready to just get there. To the bungalow in Summerlin. To settle in. Not unpack and pack up the car again.

We were gonna push through. Almost there. One more ice tea from McDonalds. I thought.

I made the wrong turn to get the ice tea. And we ended up in Sedona.

It is a really beautiful spot. A picture perfect detour.

And the next day. Before leaving for our final stretch through the desert to Las Vegas, I got my ice tea at the only place where McDonalds Golden Arches are actually turquoise.

“What’s going on?” I can feel the question i “What’s going on?” I can feel the question in the field as I consciously dropped off social to be more present during our trip to visit Grandma in the American Heartland.

We’ve been staying with Grandma at her place. Taking her to her favorite spots. And watching lots of Hallmark movies (Miles brought his headphones so he could watch his own stuff on his iPhone. 😂).

Today was the first time we went to Terra Bloom. And we spent the afternoon. Doing a bit of gridwork. But this trip isn’t about gridwork. It’s about Grandma! 💕

That said. When we were at Terra Bloom. I got a clear message, sitting on the veranda, in the cold, sipping decaf, overlooking the Mighty Missippi, that were to come back for the month of March. So there’s that.

Some of you know this. Some of you are new. So here’s a bit about Terra Bloom. . . .

Terra Bloom is a house I bought and renovated 15ish years ago. It became a family home when I got called back to Virginia — which was essentially me getting called back to fulfill my divine union destiny with Miles, who was in Old Town waiting to meet me. lol.

Terra Bloom is built on what was once a Native American enslavement camp. I did not know that until a few months ago.

It used to be very overwhelming for me there. Now, I able to live in a state of serenity. But it can still be very intense at times, to say the least. But not today. Not this trip.

The house, Terra Bloom, the land, the history, and the wisdom is very significant in the tapestry of what we’re doing now as we bridge to the 5th dimension and beyond. And Indigenous roots are extremely potent and powerful in a past life that Miles and I shared where we were again in divine union and grid working.

It’s all beyond fascinating! And a little mind blowing.

More on all this later. But for now, back to Hallmark!

😘 Gigi (Miles & Mia)
